Maya, Amanda, Rupi

The past month I have been working on three paintings to add to my poetry portrait series.:

  • “Brave.” Portrait of Maya Angelou with an excerpt from her poem, “A Brave and Startling Truth.”

  • “Skinny Black Girl.” Portrait of Amanda Gorman with an excerpt from her poem, “The Hill We Climb.”

  • “Inner World.” Portrait of a beautiful woman with an excerpt from Rupi Kaur's newest collection of poems, “home body.” (I have a portrait of Ms. Kaur in the works with an excerpt from home body)

These paintings are not yet released to the public. They are still wet and I am hoping to premier these paintings at my upcoming Virtual Art Show in March 21!

So for my loyal followers - you have the first look!

Thank you for looking. Let me know your thoughts on these paintings. I tried a new process with poetry components of the painting. I was having great difficulty painting the lettering of the poems onto the canvas, so I printed the poems with images from my painting’s background and adhered the printout to the painting! It’s a bit different for me - but I am happy with it!

Please let me know your thoughts!
